Throughout February 22 to March 7 2010 we invite you to experience stirring contemporary art by Australia’s finest emerging artists. These provocative and exciting projects consider art and its social relationship to public space, and are made specifically for you, the people of Erskineville and beyond.
Works span a range of mediums including video, performance, music, live art, participation, installation and duration and aim to lure the curious, and delight those who unintentionally stumble upon them throughout the village - in streets, shops, pubs and parks.Keep your eyes out for festival staff and helpers who are happy to point you in the direction of the next extraordinary experience.

THE FUTURE OF ART SYMPOSIUM
Will feature soapbox discussions from some of our favourite thinkers, artists, commentators, writers and performers, who will consider what they think will happen in art in 2020 and beyond. They will each be given twelve minutes. They will demand, defend, incite, perform and chat. We will listen, eat snacks and talk about their thoughts. Speakers will interrogate ideas such as sustainability, failure, new frontiers, public space, live performance and the audience ...all in one pleasant Sydney day.

The Wasteland
Hoof and Antler
T. S. Eliot gave us the muscle and we put it in our muskets and will fire it upon thee. This event explores the five parts of the Wasteland as five music and live art scores. Each will be composed by a different ensemble, resituating storytelling, mythology, fragmented narrative and stylistic disorientation. Leave your cardigan & black-rimmed coke-bottle-bottomed specs on your bedside table with your copy of Gideon’s. This night will lead you into temptation, like a tele-evangelist into the school chapel.

PARK FOR PLANET EARTH
Bababa International
On Planet Earth there are some parks. From the very beginning Earth bound parks have always been a receptacle into which the condensed vicissitudes of human society have been poured and put on display. In this way a park is a microcosm of social imagination. PARK FOR PLANET EARTH, a place where the future has already arrived, will be a park like no other.

100 Proofs the Earth Is Not a Globe asks audiences to question why they believe the things they believe, and try to pin down the ever shifting, socially dependent line between knowledge and faith, fact and (science) fiction. Beamed onto screens in for the duration of the festival, will these videos cause punters to take pause and contemplate the vastness of the universe- or existential debate about who is going to get the publican to switch the rugby back on?

BUN HEADS
An experiment that has preoccupations with hair and its daily management. Emma Michelis exhibits a variety of her work as a hairdresser in brilliant synthesis of form and content. Bunheads focuses on the technical side of the up-do, by styling regular peoples hair into various special kinds of curated buns. Hair, in all it’s brilliance, is taken out of it’s usual backstage habitat and re-contextualised in the front of house.
